More EMTs: Eight members of the Vidalia Fire Department have successfully completed an EMT-Basic class and are now prepared to take the National Registry Exam to become EMTís. Once they are certified, the department will have a total of  14 certified EMTís. In the photo below Firefighter Walker participates in the EMT class.

The department now has all the equipment and certification needed to perform high angle and confined space rescues thanks to an anonymous donation to the department. The department has been utilizing the equipment to keep their training fresh.

The department now has two certified Fire Service Instructor II personnel on staff. The Instructors are approved to teach through Louisiana State Universityís Fire And Emergency Training Institute. The benefit of this is that firefighters will receive training and certification through LSU accreditation. This will help to keep the citizens of Vidaliaís homeowners insurance at a lower rate while keeping the department rating of a 3 through the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana.

The department has also made changes to its training program in an effort to maintain the city's fire rating. One of the changes that the business owners of the City of Vidalia will notice is that the annual pre-incident planning done by the department will now be done twice a year versus once a year. In addition, the department will increase firefighter training, providing 240 hours of training per year. The department is also in the process of adopting a physical training program for firefighters.
